Dr. Robert Sumner passed away in December 2016. The Biblical Evangelist newspaper is no longer being published and the ministry of Biblical Evangelism has ceased operation.

The remaining inventory of his books and gospel tracts was transferred to The Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles and may be ordered here.

Letters We Love
Evangelist Robert L. Sumner

From Arizona came a nice letter: “Thank you for garnering such a fine batch of information for us all. News cannot all be delightful, but we must be wise, and you do have a turn with the news that makes it almost delightful!

“Also, I did not know you supported/knew/affiliated with Ralph Colas. He was such a blessing when he visited our church here in Phoenix last October. God bless him and preserve him, as also we pray you, too.”

Wasn’t that a nice letter? And Dr. Colas has been the editor’s dear friend for exactly a half-century.

Do you remember the falsely imprisoned American in Mexico (after the kidnapping of his wife and daughter) who was released following five years (there had been attempts on the lives of his son and himself during that time). He was expecting to be murdered after his release (we called him “Bill” to protect his identity).

Well, Bill is out and wrote our office the other day: “Out of respect and the highest regard for your efforts through The Biblical Evangelist in the Name of Jesus, please accept this year’s contribution to your publication in the amount of one hundred dollars. Keep up the good work of the conviction’s of your faith.”

He went on to relate about some “half dozen times” nearly that he had been contacted by the Jehovah’s Witnesses (so-called) either on the street or at his home and the excellent responses he was able to give.

A New York minister writes: “I have been going to contact you again for a couple of months, but somehow I never got around to do it. I want to tell you how much my wife and I enjoy your paper. We always find so many interesting things in it that we never hear about from any other source. We praise the Lord that He has enabled you to continue with the paper.”

And how about a little humor? A former associate sent an e-mail, ‘there you go again,’ saying: “Well, you cost me two hours of my life this morning – TBE came yesterday, and I spent two hours reading most of it this morning. Happens every time an issue shows up in the mail.”

But think how much smarter and better informed he is now!

A longtime Christian leader in Michigan sent a message: “The May-June Biblical Evangelist is excellent. Especially your article, ‘Judas and Jesus.’ Thanks.”

There are other letters we could have – and probably should have – printed this time, but this is enough for now.

May we hear from you soon?
