Dr. Robert Sumner passed away in December 2016. The Biblical Evangelist newspaper is no longer being published and the ministry of Biblical Evangelism has ceased operation.

This fine volume is a “must” for anyone getting ready to visit Europe, especially if he or she is not traveling on a tour package with his or her itinerary already lined up. It covers every country in Western Europe – with the United Kingdom properly divided into four sections: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. There is also a “Where to Go” chapter telling you where some of the wonders of Europe you may have (or have not) heard about are located. For example, the oldest belfry in Belgium (Tournai), the tallest bell tower in Italy (Cremona), the largest cathedral in France (Amiens), the largest carved wooden altarpiece in the world (Seville Cathedral in Sevilla, Spain), the first Bible printed in the Netherlands (Amsterdam), world’s biggest organ (Lübrck, Germany), Gutenberg Bible (several sites in Germany and England), highest waterfalls in Germany (Triberg), only Renaissance church in Spain (Granada), and many others.

Each country offers a small map to give a potential traveler an idea of the area; a box containing phone numbers (in both the United Kingdom and the United States) of Tourism information; the “Country in a Capsule,” such as size, money, religion, language, food, brief history, and “shopping” for the ladies; and information about various cities in that country. Scattered about the book are such tidbits and “What Amy’s Kids Loved in Europe” (and one for Bill’s kids), “Bill’s Favorite Places in Europe” (and one for Amy), quotes and songs, items about key personalities from that country, and various items of interest. In short, you might want the book even if you had no plans to travel to Europe.

We thought we had previously reviewed one of these “companions” on the Holy Land, but we can’t find any record of it. Perhaps we only requested it and didn’t receive it.
