Dr. Robert Sumner passed away in December 2016. The Biblical Evangelist newspaper is no longer being published and the ministry of Biblical Evangelism has ceased operation. The remaining inventory of his books and gospel tracts was transferred to The Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles and may be ordered here.
Here are some gracious words that accompanied a gracious gift from long-time friends and supporters in Indiana. The good pastor wrote: “Thank you for the superb example of faithfulness. I trust that when I reach your age I will be marching true to our Lord as you have done. “We enjoy every issue of The Biblical Evangelist. God’s people here are thankful for you. “Enclosed is our gift for this month. May it help to defray some of the expenses. We are praying for you and for those who serve with you. With warmest personal regards in Christ.” A brother in neighboring Illinois commented: “Please continue my subscription. We conservative, fundamental, evangelical, orthodox Christians are still out there struggling to live godly lives in an increasingly ungodly world. I am 47, but can remember my younger days when I would go to church and learn right from wrong. It is hard to find a church like that any more. [Isn’t that the truth! – Ed]. Your paper helps me ‘bolster my roots’ in God’s truth.” That’s great! A dear preacher brother in Ohio encouraged us with this letter: “Just a brief note about the blessing your paper, The Biblical Evangelist, was to me this month. My granddaughter was expecting, and when the baby did not come on time, they decided to take her to the hospital and induce labor. We got a call at 1:30 in the morning from her grandmother and I could not go back to sleep. I decided rather than disturbing [my wife], I would go out into the family room and read. “I was especially encouraged by your ‘office devotional’ on angels, and at 3:30 in the morning, the reminder of how God’s servants encamp round about those who fear Him. I committed my granddaughter to the Lord, and went to bed about 4:00 a.m. and went fast asleep. “The baby was born at 7:23 and is a healthy baby. It was a difficult delivery on a small lady. The baby weighed 9 pounds, 10.2 ounces.” [Wow! – Ed] He went on to comment about the editor’s new book: “I want to thank you, too, for your exposition of the book of Hebrews. As I read the Foreword, I was encouraged because that is precisely the interpretation I have always given to the sixth and tenth chapters. I will look forward to getting into the meat of the commentary.” Another preacher brother in Ohio, also writing about our Hebrews book, added: “I know I will use it! You have left an impact on all of us down through the years. This book will serve to continue to do that. “What a privilege it was to go to Tennessee Temple from 1963-1967 and often times hear you speak. Thank you for all you have written and those messages you have preached. You have impacted many lives.” A musical evangelist in Pennsylvania, writing about another matter, included this kind word: “First, I want to say I have REALLY appreciated The Biblical Evangelist, and read every issue that I have received. God bless you all for standing for the Truth in this country.” Let’s call that a wrap for this time. We’d love to hear from you, too. |
