CONTRADICTORY OPINIONS BY OUR #1 COURT.
Dr. Robert L. Sumner

In the last day of its current term, the United States Supreme Court, by a single vote (5-4) ruled that Boy Scouts have a right to prohibit Sodomites from positions of leadership within its organization. (The New Jersey Supreme Court, believe it or not, had ruled that allowing them to do so was “not inconsistent” with Scouting values, if you can imagine. Doesn’t anyone on that court know the first principles of morality?) Chief Justice William Rehnquist wrote the majority opinion.

At the same time, and by the same single vote (5-4), the high body tossed out Nebraska’s ban on partial birth abortion, wherein a baby is taken partly from the mother’s womb, murdered, and placed back in. The alleged conservative who has voted liberal on almost every case since his appointment in that body, Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, wrote the majority opinion on this one (saying it would impose an “undue burden” on women who wanted abortions! Gimmee a break!). Chief Justice Rehnquist and Associate Justices Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas each wrote dissenting opinions.
